Sylvia M Broughton

Sylvia (Brigham) Broughton, 95, formerly of Sioux Falls, SD, died Monday, August 21, 2017, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville, IN.

Sylvia Stolley, daughter of Theodore and Amelia (Giertz) Stolley was born October 13, 1921 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Sylvia was a longtime resident of Sioux Falls, living here from 1930 until 1972. While in Sioux Falls, she was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1939. She was united in marriage to James Brigham on June 27, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. Sylvia worked for JC Penney in the credit department, retiring in 1972. James predeceased her in 1983. She was married to Dale Broughton in Marion, IA, on October 10, 1987.

Sylvia is survived by her 4 daughters, Lana (Bill) Brinkman, Sioux Falls SD, Cathy Gordon, Winthrop Harbor, IL, Susan (John) Day, Albion, In, Anette Brigham, Payson, Utah; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley English of Pierre, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James A. Brigham and Dale Broughton; brothers, Ralph Stolley, Harris Stolley, and DeWayne Stolley; sisters, Severa Hoefert, Selma Tschetter, and Mildred Callahan.    

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be Friday, September 1, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory, Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2017, at George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory, Sioux Falls. Interment will follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
