Weldon “Wimp” Mawhorter, 90, of Albion, Indiana, passed away at his home on Monday, October 28, 2024. Weldon was born on February 13, 1934, in Silver Lake, Indiana, to Dale and Ina (Edsall) Mawhorter. On June 6, 1953, he married Catherine McGinley, in Kendallville, Indiana.
Weldon graduated from Albion High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was a dairy farmer, and a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He was an active member of the Albion American Legion Post 246. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending sporting events, and fishing. Weldon had a love of Airedale and German Shepherd dogs, especially his beloved “Duke”, and was an avid Yankees and Purdue fan.
Surviving Weldon are his children Michael (Rita) Mawhorter, of Columbia City, Mark (Shelley) Mawhorter, of Albion, Susie (Ron) Gallmeyer, of Albion, Matt (Shaun) Mawhorter, of Goshen, Monte (Jennifer) Mawhorter, of Ligonier, Mitch (Darlene) Mawhorter, of Plymouth, and Martin Mawhorter, of Albion; brother Burt (Becky) Mawhorter, of Fort Wayne; 20 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, his parents, and brother Bill Mawhorter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Blessed Scarcement Catholic Church, 2290 N State Road 9, Albion. Father J Steele will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion. Burial with Military Honors will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion.
