Vicki Jeannette (Kanost) Layman, 86, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Golden Years Homestead Nursing Home, in Fort Wayne. Vicki was born on January 26, 1939, to John and Hazel (Frisbie), in Richmond, Indiana. On June 15, 1963, she married Robert “Bob” Layman, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Fort Wayne.
Vicki was a school teacher at Kekionga Middle School and later in life she was a runner and administrative person for Burt Blee Dixon and Sutton Law firm. Vicki loved history and joined the Daughters of the Union Veterans Rebecca Otis Tent #54 in the early 1980’s. She was a past president of both the Tent and the Department of Indiana State for the DUV. Vicki joined the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter in 1973. She held several offices with them including Chapter 1St Regent. At Emmanuel church she was an active member of Lutherans for Life and held many offices for them over the years. Vicki enjoyed her family, playing the piano, singing in the Emmanuel choir with her late husband, and was the family’s genealogist.
Surviving Vicki are her sons James Layman of Columbia City, John Layman of Fort Wayne, William (Stephanie) Layman of Fort Wayne, and Keith (Regina) Layman, of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with another on the way.
Preceding Vicki in death are her husband Bob, parents John and Hazel, brothers John, Wesley, Richard, Philip, Stanley, Allen and David Kanost, and sister Virginia Young.
Funeral service will be at 12:00p, Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne. Visitation will be from 10:00a to 12:00p, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the church. Pastor Dan Sheafer will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, 5365 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne.
