Robert J. Lung, Sr., 96, of Ligonier, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville. He was born on March 28, 1930, in Huntington, IN to Curtis and Edna (Weist) Lung. He was a proud US Army veteran, serving in Korea. He worked for the Napoleon Egg Plant in Albion and later retired from Monsanto as a purchasing analyst following 25 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, fishing trips to Minnesota with friends, and reading his favorite books. He was a member of the Albion Eagles, Korean War Vets Society, and Wolf Lake V.F.W. Post 4717. Robert was proud to take part in the Honor Flight in 2018 and was very moved by his experience.
On January 7, 1956, in Brimfield, he married Lola Hammel. She preceded him in death on September 7, 1995. He later married Janice Martin on July 19, 1996, in Reno, NV. Janice survives in Ligonier. Also surviving is son, Robert Lung, Jr., of Albion; daughters, Karen (Daryl) Schmuck of Kendallville and Sandra (Chuck) Dazey of Albion; stepsons, Michael (Barbara) Clark of Orland and David (Mary) Clark of Wakarusa; stepdaughters, Cynthia Hearn of Kendallville, Neta Kellam of Ligonier, and Kristine Sobasky of Ligonier. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; 25 step great grandchildren; and 7 step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lola; grandson, Aric Smith; step granddaughter, Cheryl Godfrey; step great grandson, Andrew Wysong; and 10 siblings.
Funeral Service will be 1:00pm, Monday, June 1, 2026 at Ligonier Christian Church, 9025 N 860 W, Ligonier. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until time of service on Monday. Burial with military honors will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion.
