Robert Layman

Robert “Bob” Layman, 92, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Golden Years Homestead Nursing Home, in Fort Wayne. Bob was born on December 2, 1932, to Earl and Hilda (Berkes) Layman, in Fort Wayne. On June 15, 1963, he married Vicki Jeannette Kanost, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Fort Wayne.

Bob started as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service at the age of 19. In 1953, he enlisted in the US Army, as a Unit Supply Specialist. After his service he then returned to his mail carrier position. Bob is a past president of the Summit City Branch 116 of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union. He was active in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, serving in the choir and he was part of the “Thursday Guys”. He enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, and watching his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving Bob are his wife, Vicki; sons James Layman of Columbia City, John Layman of Fort Wayne, William (Stephanie) Layman of Fort Wayne, and Keith (Regina) Layman, of Fort Wayne; sister Beverly Williams, of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with another on the way.

Preceding Bob in death are his parents Earl and Hilda Layman.

Funeral service will be at 12:00p, Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne. Visitation will be from 10:00a to 12:00p, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the church. Pastor Thomas Eggold will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, 5365 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne.
