Albion - Rhonda E. Johnson, 91, of Albion, passed away peacefully at Parkview DeKalb Hospital on Friday, April 17, 2026. She was born on June 23, 1934, in Merriam, to Ora and Athalea (Fry) Tucker.
She graduated from Wittenberg University with a bachelor’s degree and pursued her education further at St. Francis University in Fort Wayne, earning a master’s degree in education. A life long educator, Rhonda mainly taught 3rd grade, retiring from Smith-Green Community Schools (formerly Green Center) after 44 years of dedication to her students. Science was her passion, especially nature. Rhonda devoted herself to leading the science fairs and helped develop a program for gifted and talented students. Following her retirement, she continued as an educator at Mary Raber Montessori School in Columbia City.
She was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Albion where she loved socializing with her church family. She maintained lifelong friendships – staying in touch as often as she could – which brought her great joy. On November 16, 1958, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, she married Paul Johnson. He preceded her in death in 2011.
She leaves behind her sons, Eric (Veronica) Johnson and Richard Johnson, both of Albion; grandchildren, Bob (Morgan) Johnson, Ben Johnson, Corina Williams, and Michelle (Brandon) Croft; and great grandchildren, Cole, Triston, Jordan, Drew, and Alyssa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother and sister-in-law, Bon (Ann) Tucker; and daughter-in-law, Kathy.
Funeral service is 2:00pm, Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 210 N Orange St., Albion, with visitation from noon until service time. Pastor John Roberts will officiate.
Contributions in Rhonda’s memory may be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
