Mitch Fiandt Obituary

Mitchell Allen “Mitch” Fiandt, 67, of Albion, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.  He was born on May 18, 1957, in Kendallville, to David J. and Zula Fiandt.  He graduated East Noble High School in 1975.  Mitch was very active in the Albion community and truly exhibited a servant’s heart.  He was a 49-year firefighter, having served the last 38 years with the Albion Fire Department.  Prior to Albion, he served 11 years on the Orange Township Fire Department.  Mitch’s service to his community included three terms as a member of the Albion Town Council with two years a president, 10 years on the Albion Area Plan Commission, and served as a commissioner for the Albion Redevelopment Commission. He coached Albion Youth Baseball, served on the Court House Square Preservation Committee, the Indiana District 3 Planning Council, and the Noble County Emergency Planning Committee.  He was also an EMT and a part-time or reserve police officer with several area police departments.  Since 1983, Mitch has also served those suffering the loss of a loved one by working at several area funeral homes, including the last ten years with Harper Funeral Homes in Avilla and Albion.

In 2019, he retired from the Noble County E-911 Communications Center. He had been employed by the 911 center for 35 years, and beginning in 1999, was the appointed 911 Director.  Prior to being appointed director, he served as both a dispatch supervisor and a dispatcher.

On July 23, 1977, at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church in Rome City, he married Carla Kleinrichert. Carla survives in Albion.  Also surviving are his parents David and Zula Fiandt, son and daughter in-law David and Jami Fiandt of Avilla, daughter Melissa Fiandt of Fort Wayne, 3 grandsons Talon, Jaxson,  and Maximus; sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Dean Gillespie;  a great niece loved as a daughter, Jodyann, her husband Dyllan, and her sons, Aiden, Greyson, and Mason.

Funeral service will be 11:00am, Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Pastor Bret Frymier will officiate.  Visitation will also be 3-7pm, Friday, November 29, 2024, at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion.
