Fort Wayne - Maurice J Forkert, 90, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on November 24, 2024, He was born at home on November 16, 1934, of Swiss immigrants, John E. and Charlotte (Alfter) Forkert, in Fort Wayne. He enlisted in the army and served his country as a supply sergeant E5. During his working career, he was a printer and mechanical design engineer. He was awarded 7 US Patents covering mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic designs. He retired from Tokheim Corporation in 1989 and from Tuthill Transfer Systems in 2008. He then continued working as a consultant. He was a member of the Measuring Sector of the US Department of Commerce Weights and Measure, International Bureau of Weights and Measure, and was on 4 Standards Technical Panels for Underwriters Laboratoires. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and woodworking.
Survivors include wife of 41 years, Linda; daughter, Deborah (Chris) White; son, Richard (Jill) Forkert; daughter-in-law, Karen Forkert; mother of his children, Sue Forkert; stepsons, Rick (Theresa) and Brad Tindall; grandchildren, Trevin, Kyla, and Justin; and step grandchildren, Nick, Chelsea, and Aubrey. He was preceded in death by son, Michael; grandson, Trent; sister, Janet Diller; and his parents.
Per his request, there will be a celebration of life gathering of friends and relatives at a later date. His ashes will be buried next to his parents at Lindenwood Cemetery. Maurice's request for memorials is for each of you to do a good deed for someone in need.
