Matthew Wass Obituary

Matthew D Wass, 52, of Columbia City, passed away on Sunday January 19, 2025. Matthew was born on February 13, 1972, to Phil and Marty (Hill) Wass, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Matthew spent time outdoors, hunting and fishing with his father, Phil. He enjoyed working in construction with heavy machinery. He was a pipe layer, working with SDR pipe.  He attended the Pathway Community Church. Matthew loved his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, and he was known to be very protective of his family.

Surviving Matthew are his daughters Shyann Wass, of LaOtto, Autumn (Tyler Larowe) Wass, of Avilla, and Mattalyn (Alex Gudewicz) Wass, of LaOtto; parents Phil and Marty Wass; brother Ryan Wass, of Death Valley, California; sister Shayna (Chad) Burgh, of Fort Wayne; aunts Eileen Byerley, of Kendallville, Leighann Hill, of Florida, Susan (Mike) Miller, of Fort Wayne, and Julie Peterman, of Fort Wayne; grandchildren Blaedin Gudewicz, and Crew James Larowe; a niece, several nephews and a great nephew.

Preceding Matthew in death are his grandparents Dorthy Shuler, Charles Hill Sr., and Robert and Mary Wass, uncle Chuck Hill, and aunt Carol Stoner.

Funeral service will be at 1:00pm, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St, Avilla. Pastor Aaron Lee will preside. Visitation will be 11:00 until service, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the funeral home.
