Madaline Louise Diehm was born to parents Jesse and LaVon Workman of Churubusco on March 3, 1932. Her younger brothers were Francis ‘Sonny’ Workman and Jack Workman. She spent her 93 years of life loving her family and friends, caring for dear neighbors and beloved pets, and demonstrating unwavering strength and adaptability. Madaline passed away on July 14, 2025.
In 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, James Allen Pounds. They brought four children into the world: Cindy (Gary) Leatherman, Tenel (Eric) Bonar, Scott (Carol Green) Pounds, and Joe (Laura Landes) Pounds. Her family grew to include ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
In 1991, she married Berlen Hamilton Diehm. With him, she found abundant laughter, love, and sunshine.
Her many joys over the years included roller skating, cheerleading for the Eagles, baton twirling, feeding the birds, tending flowers, baking pies, riding her minibike on wooded trails, flying over farmland on warm still evenings, creating folk and fiber art, decorating her home, visiting with her neighbors, garage-saling with Betty Jean, working hard no matter the job, and helping many. Her favorite part of life was being a grandmother who loved unconditionally.
“I had a great life. Though there were a lot of mountains to climb, I always had God to talk to. I lived long enough to know my grandchildren and their children. Who could ask for anything more?”
A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion. A celebration of life event will be held at a later date.
Those who wish, may make a donation to a charity of choice such as the Noble County Humane Society.
