Lenora Hatton Obituary

LaOtto - Lenora Bell (Cobbs) Hatton, 94, of LaOtto, passed away on Friday, December 11th, 2020 at her home.  Lenora was born January 30th, 1926 to Frank and Ethel (Cramer) Cobbs.  She married Carl Hatton on September 13th, 1946.  Lenora cared for her family most of her life, raising her own children and three of her grandchildren.  She spent a great deal of time with and helped raise her great-granddaughter, Chaunda (O’Mandre) Hall, with whom she shared a special bond.
Lenora is well remembered in the rural LaOtto/Avilla area for delivering the paper for many, many years.  She enjoyed getting in her car and driving for hours, getting lost and finding her way home on a Sunday afternoon.  She loved sports, especially IU Basketball and the Cubs.  She was a Bobby Knight and a Sammy Sosa fan.  Her life was close to complete when her Cubbies won the World Series.  She was an avid bowler and was managing to bowl 200+ games well into her 80’s. She was also an officer in her Garrett league until she put her bowling ball away.  She shared her love of drive-in movies with three generations of descendants, as well as bargain hunting at garage sales. Her secret to a long life was staying busy and enjoying numerous hobbies including reading, puzzles, indoor and outdoor plants, knitting, and crocheting.  She enjoyed the sound of big bands and attending school band competitions.  She loved decorating for Christmas inside and out, and having her family gather for the holiday to spend time and play euchre.
Lenora is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Tim) Mueller of Hoagland and Bonnie (Jerry) Myers of LaOtto; her sons, Steve Hatton of LaOtto and Darrell (Theresa) Hatton of Garrett; her granddaughters, Darla (Brian) Buckles of Avilla and Ella (Daren) Brockelsby of Brownsburg, whom she raised.  Grandchildren Anita (Andrew) Thom, Aaron (Abby) Mueller, Carla Hall, Tamara (James) Carr, Deanna (Pete) Crawford, Miranda Myers, Jessica Hatton, Steven (Brandy) Hatton, Angela Acker, Sarah (Jason) Patrick, Lakota Hagerman, 33 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Carl Hatton; a daughter, Karen Cordial; a son, Delbert Hatton; a grandson, Carl Cordial, whom she raised; and a great-granddaughter, Kendra Owens.  Funeral service will be 2:00pm Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla, with visitation one hour prior.  Melvin Heiniger will officiate.  Those attending the visitation or funeral will be required to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth.  Burial will be beside her family at Perry Township Cemetery, Huntertown, at a later date.  Contributions in Lenora's memory may be directed to the Humane Society of Noble County.  To sign the online guestbook or leave a condolence, visit, www.harperfuneralhomes.com.
