Laura A (Carmichael) Helmkamp

Laura Ann Helmkamp, 64, of Avilla, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne.

She was born on February 21, 1954, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Johnnie and Lorraine Carmichael. On March 16, 1974, in Avilla, she married Steve Helmkamp.  Laura was recently retired from S&S Machine in Avilla. She loved to put together puzzles and was always caring for her family and loved ones. She had a great desire to learn more about her faith and studied her Bible often. Her macaroni salad was always a must-have at family functions. She enjoyed watching true crime shows. Her favorite title was Mawmaw.

Survivors include her husband, Steve, of Avilla; her father, Johnnie Carmichael of Avilla; son, Stephen Helmkamp of Avilla; daughters, Autumn (Tom) Brown of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Ashley Helmkamp of Indianapolis, and Amber (Jaye) Helmkamp-Blythe of Indianapolis; and a grandson, Emmett Helmkamp-Blythe of Indianapolis.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N, Main St., Avilla, with visitation one hour prior to service. Visitation also will be from 2-8 p.m.Wednesday. April 25, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Avilla Cemetery.
