Joseph "Joe" Sumner Obituary

Avilla - Joseph A. "Joe" Sumner, 45, of Avilla, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Avilla on Thursday April 30, 2020.  He was born on December 24, 1974 and raised by his foster parents, Paul and Barbara Wurm.  On August 24, 2013, in Kendallville, he married Beth Carteaux.  Joe had most recently been working for Troyer Brothers as a welder.  He loved to fish, and was always keeping busy tinkering with one project or another.  He and his wife attended Destiny Family of Faith in Kendallville.  Survivors include his wife, Beth Sumner of Avilla, daughter, Tabitha Ann, sons, Alex and Kayden, all of Avilla.  Also surviving are brothers, Wayne Sumner of Kendallville, and Adam Wurm of Arizona; sisters, Leslie Cearbaugh of Auburn, Valerie Burns of Ft. Wayne, and Barbie Wurm of Auburn.  He was preceded in death by his foster parents, and a sister, Beverly Messmann.  Due to ongoing restrictions on public gatherings, services will be private.  Donations may be made to the family, in lieu of flowers, care of Beth Sumner.  To leave a condolence or sign the online guestbook, visit www.harperfuneralhomes.com.  Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla, is assisting the family with arrangements.
