John Michael Meyer, 66, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Avilla, Indiana, passed away at his home in Fort Wayne on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024.
He was born on April 10, 1957, in Garrett, Indiana, to Herman and Bernadette (Shoudel) Meyer.
John had many interests and hobbies — his favorite was fishing at Eagle Lake in Ontario Canada. He also enjoyed music and was very talented at playing the guitar. His motorcycle, brewing his own beer, and collecting model trains, are other ways he spent his time.
He retired in 2022, from Hendrickson in Kendallville.
John is survived by his brother, David "Sweeney" (Clora) Meyer; sisters, Mary Kay (Ed) Helmkamp, of Wolcottville and Ann (Tom) Smith, of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Tim) Wells, Kim (Chase) Anderson, Brian Meyer, Alan (Amber) Smith and Stephen (Amanda) Smith; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Ryan Wells, Corinne Wells, Paige Anderson, Caden Anderson, Addison, Regan, Morgan, Evan, Ellie Maye, and Piper Meyer, and Abigail, Nolan and Ava Grace Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Margaret Meyer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., Avilla.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m., on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
