James “Jim” McCoy, 88, of Albion, Ind, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. On February 17, 1936, Jim was the first born of seven children, to James Ralph and Freida (Gaerte) McCoy, in York Township, Noble County, Indiana. Jim married Linda Guthrie, on July 7, 1957, in Syracuse, Ind.
Jim was active in many facets of serving in his 88 years. Church being a big part of his life. He was the recipient of several awards, giver of gifts, and Citizen of the Year. He served on the Central Noble School Board for 12 years, being able to sign his name on all three of his children’s diplomas. In September he attended his 70th High School Reunion and still held the class President position. He helped to start the Central Noble Food Pantry and served in the Lions Club in Albion. Jim was always willing and available to help all those in need.
Survivors include his wife Linda; sons Michael (Kay Wise) McCoy, of Auburn, and Martin (Karen) McCoy, of Auburn; daughter Lori (Doug) Donaldson, of Auburn; brother John (Donna) McCoy, of Albion; grandchildren Lauren (Brock) Welch, Daniel James McCoy, Heather (Dustin) Vaal, Brittany Fry, Hannah McCoy, James Brogan (Tyra) McCoy, Hallie McCoy, Colton (Sarah) Miller, Ashton (Trenton) Huff; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Jim in death are his parents James Ralph and Fredia McCoy, brother Bill McCoy, and sisters Linda Wolfe, Janice Aungst, Norma Riccius, and Mary Inlow-Poyser.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Bret Frymier will officiate. Visitation also will be 1:00- 5:00pm, Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion. Donations in Jim's memory may be to Central Noble Food Pantry or the Lion's Club of Albion.
