Donald A. "Duber" "Doc" Merriman, 58, of Albion, passed away on Saturday, Jan 10, 2026, at Stillwater Hospice in Ft. Wayne. He was born on Sept 28, 1967, in Plymouth, IN, to Donald L. and Kathryn R. (Moorhouse) Merriman.
On October 5 1991, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Avilla, Duber married Sally Stoneburner. After 2 years in San Diego, they made their home in Albion. Duber was a graduate of Central Noble and served 5 years in the US Navy SeaBees, Battalion NMCB4, where he was stationed at Port Hueneme & San Diego, CA. He served multiple deployments to different islands including Okinawa, Puerto Rico, Antigua & several in the South Pacific. He was also deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield. After his service, he worked with his Dad at Don Merriman Welding & other ventures.
In 2001, Duber & Sally purchased Doc's Hardware where he loved serving his community & helping customers with their home projects. He loved socializing & getting to know people. He & Sally loved traveling together, camping, spending time with friends & family, playing ping pong in his barn with the guys in the winter and golf in the summer. He especially adored Sunday dinners at home with all of the kids & grandkids. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Albion and Albion American Legion Post #246.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Merriman of Albion; son, Miles A. (Bethany) Merriman of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Alice L. (Dylan) Baxter and Nyla J. (Ted) Stangland both of Albion; grandchildren, Grover L. Stangland, Tilly J. Stangland, Lola R. Baxter, Warren D. Baxter, and one grandchild on the way. Also surviving are sisters, Monna (Bill) Kesling of Avilla, Amanda (Brian) Geiger and Regina (Rick) Gallmeyer both of Albion; mother in law, Shirley Stoneburner of Albion; and brother in law, Ryan (Erika) Stoneburner of Ft. Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents and father in law, Roger Stoneburner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am, Friday, Jan 16, 2026 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2290 N St. Rd 9, Albion. Father J. Steele will celebrate the mass. Visitation will be 1:00-8:00pm, Thursday, Jan 15, 2026, at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion.
Duber will be laid to rest with military honors at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion.
