Albion – Dean Elwood, 83, of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born on November 28, 1941, in Hardin County, Ohio, to Wilford and Martha (Callahan) Elwood. Dean was owner and operator of D & J Tree Services in Albion for many years, retiring recently. Dean had many hobbies throughout the years including fishing and playing euchre, traveling to Ocala, Florida during the winter months, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Albion American Legion Post #246 and Wolf Lake VFW Post 4717, and a former member of the Masonic Lodge – Prentiss Chapter in Albion.
Dean leaves behind his children, Angel (Don) Hanf of Findlay, Ohio, Shari (Keith) O’Brien of Fredricktown, Ohio, Wendy (Mike) Dill of Arlington, Ohio, and Tami Ellis of Bronson, Mich; bonus son, Tod Gerardot of Orland, IN; and grandchildren, Jenny (Wilson) Rivera, Heather (Stephen) Meihls, Brad (Jamie) O’Brien, Lynae Dill, Jason (Theresa) Dill, Eric Dill, Teaira (Justin) Sommers, and Destiny Towers. Also surviving is a sister, Pauline Hamilton of Forest, Ohio, and special companion, Sharon Clayman of Albion, Indiana. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Julie Raye (Crozier) Elwood in 2013; siblings, Wilma Jean Hogue, Lovalene Riggs, LaVonne Baker, Ruth Shaw, Chuck Elwood, Leo Elwood, Jim Elwood and Gary Elwood.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion. Pastor Bret Frymier will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until time of service on Monday. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion.
