Cecil Blain Obituary

Cecil A Blain, 84, of Garrett, IN, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in New Haven, IN. He was born on March 27, 1940, in Fort Wayne, IN, to Grifford and Mayme (Wermanger) Blain.

Cecil served his country in the United States Navy as a shipfitter where he learned to weld and fabricate. He joined the Fort Wayne Fire Department in 1965 serving as Assistant Chief for many years, while continuing to weld and fabricate as his day off job. In 1993 he founded CA Blain and sons welding in Garrett. Many examples of metal artwork he created can be found around the city of Fort Wayne including the American flyer at Anthis Career Center, as well as, pieces at the Botanical Conservatory and the Indonesian Rainforest inside the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo.

Survivors include his son Michael John Blain, of Garrett; brother James Blain, of Austin, Texas; sister Carol (John) Jump, of Stroh; grandchildren Stephanie Blain, Michael A (Jessie) Blain, and Austin Legere; great-grandchildren Zian Wilhelm, Tommy Wilhelm, Rae’Lynn Blain, King Johnson, Daya Yates, Nova Yates, and Quest Yates; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son Steven R Blain, parents Gifford and Mayme, sister-in-law Sherry Blain, brother-in-law Rex Yarman, uncle Orin Wermanger, and nephews David Bruner and Russell Jewell.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm, Monday, November 25, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St, Avilla, with visitation from 10:00am until time of funeral service. Pastor Jacob Jackson will officiate. Burial will be at Embrey Cemetery in Garrett.
