Bradley L. Kumfer, 74, of Kendallville, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026. He was born on May 26, 1951, in Ft. Wayne, to Alva Stephen and Lydia (Taylor) Kumfer. He was a 1969 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Ft Wayne. He went on to earn a degree in Supervision from IPFW. Brad was a proud veteran of the US Army and US Army Reserves. He retired from Zollner-Colman Schmit where he maintained machinery. In his free time, Brad enjoyed golfing with his friends at Noble Hawk and teaching his grandchildren how to golf. He also coached his children’s baseball and softball teams. Following his retirement, he kept in touch with his Zollner “buds” over breakfast. Brad was a member of Avilla American Legion Post #240, where he served as the Sergeant at Arms.
On November 27, 1971, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Ft Wayne, he married Rose Weikart. Rose survives in Kendallville. Also surviving are children, Marya (Richard) Arnold of LaOtto, Matthew (Victoria) Kumfer of Mishawaka, and Amanda (Timothy) Johnson of South Whitley; grandchildren, Alexandria, Jonah, Quincy, Emma, Maxwell, William, Grace, Lily, Michael, and James; and siblings, Steven Kumfer, Patrick (Amie) Kumfer, and Penny (William) Gorman. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00pm, Friday, Feb 6, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 228 N Main St., Avilla. Fr Dave Voors will celebrate mass. Military honors will follow mass at the church. Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00pm, Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla. Entombment will be at Catholic Cemetery on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
