Anna Mayme Scott, aged 90, died peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in Dayton, Ohio. She is survived by her three children, Richard Scott (“Scotty”) (wife, Joy) of Dayton; Elaine Dosh of Dayton, and Diane Butler (husband, Howard Brown) of Binghamton, New York; two grandchildren, B.J. Dosh and Kelli Dosh of Dayton; and two great-grandchildren, Lonny Jr. England and Shirley England of Dayton. Anne was married for 18 years to Dorsey Scott (deceased).
The daughter of Harry and Alma Butler, Anne grew up in Albion, Indiana, well ahead of her brother, Jerry (deceased), graduated from Albion High School in 1949, and lived most of her adult life in Fremont, Ohio, where she worked as a computer operator at Cal-Van Tools, before retiring to Dayton in 1996. Music played a central role in Anne’s life, from a year studying music at Ball State University, to teaching accordion and piano, to playing piano in many settings. Among her greatest joys was playing piano for productions at the Fremont Community Theater and accompanying her daughter, Diane, and many of her friends in high school music competitions. Anne continued to play after retirement and even performed for fellow residents during her time in assisted living and a nursing home. Anne was an avid reader, especially of historical fiction, as well as a fan of musical theater, which led to several excursions to Broadway. For quiet times, she loved to solve crossword puzzles and make cross-stitched pieces for friends and family. Cats were her favorite subject matter, a passion she shared with members of the Dayton Cat Club. Her perfect afternoon consisted of listening to Michael Crawford (of Phantom of the Opera fame) and reading with a cat on her lap, in the midst of her blue glass collection. Anne was a lovely, tolerant, and warm person who laughed easily. She was ready to go and did not suffer. All the same, we will miss her a lot.
There will be a service celebrating her life on Friday, April 16, at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home, 5555 Philadelphia Dr, Dayton, Ohio, as well as a grave side service on Saturday, April 17, at the Rose Hill Cemetery, 489 West Main St, Albion, Indiana.
Local arrangements by Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, Indiana.
