Alice H. Meyer, 89, of Avilla, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.
Alice was born June 16, 1934 in Avilla, a daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice Teders. She had worked at Weaver Bait Company and also at Sacred Heart Home.
Alice was a member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Avilla where she was a sacristan, member of the Rosary/Alter society and also made thousands of rosaries for foreign missions. She was also a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.
She loved gardening, canning, making apple sauce, Chex Mix, and her legendary chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her children, Daniel Meyer of Toney, Alabama, Edward (Darla) Meyer of Kendallville, Carey (Tami) Meyer of Fort Wayne, Susan (Joseph) Litchfield of Avilla, Sandra (Jeffrey) Harlan of Fort Wayne and Kurt (Nicole) Meyer of Avilla; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two step great- grandchildren; sisters, Theresa Meyer of Avilla, Henrietta Harris of Laotto and Lucy (Michael) Higginbotham of Wolcottville; brother, Herman Teders of Avilla; special friend, Paul Shepard of Avilla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard L. Meyer; brothers, Leo Teders and Henry Teders; sisters, Mary Fike and Elizabeth “Betty” Teders.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 228 N. Main St., Avilla, with visitation from 10 a.m., until the start of Mass.
Visitation will also be held from 4-8 p.m., on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, hosted at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., Avilla, with a rosary to be held at 6 p.m.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Avilla. Memorial donations may be made to the Rosary/Alter Society
