Thomas P. Goggans, 78, of Matthews, formerly of Albion, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at his home. He was born on May 5, 1941 in Tupelo, Mississippi to Carnage and Ruby Goggans. He graduated from Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne and went on to work as a fork truck mechanic for most of his life. Tom was very involved in the fire service, belonging to the Noble Township Fire Department for over 20 years. He also served as the past president of the Wolf Lake Lions Club, and belonged to the Matthews Lion Club. In his free time, he was a race car driver, enjoyed his motorcycle, and liked to watch westerns and wrestling. On August 11, 2012, in Albion, he married Betty, who survives in Matthews. Also surviving are children, Pam (Vernon) Howard of FL, Ruby Shepherd of Albion, Debbie (Robin) Murray of Ft. Wayne, Tommy (Martha) Goggans of Albion, Robin (John) Urso of Albion, Tracy (Dave "DJ") Thieme of Albion, Laura Huff of Topeka, Rachel Hile of Albion, and Clint Goggans of Ft. Wayne. Also surviving are stepchildren, Barbara (Nelson) Morrow of AZ, David Sheveily II of Muncie, and Douglas (Christi) Sheveily of Matthews, brother, Buddy Goggans of Ft. Wayne, sister, Brenda (Jerry) Lovell of Bluffton, sister-in-law, Sherry (Frank) Andes of Gas City, 39 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Cheryl Muench. A memorial service will be 3:00pm Friday September 13, 2019 at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, with visitation from 1pm until service time. Burial will take place at a later date at Green Hill Cemetery, Columbia City. Contributions in Tom's memory may be directed to the Noble Township Fire Department.
