Leonard Noel Hicks

Leonard Noel Hicks, 70, a lifelong resident of Kendallville, passed away at his home on Sunday August 26, 2018.  He was born on Feb 8, 1948 in Hueysville, KY, to the late Leonard and Luna (Smith) Hicks.  On October 24, 1970, in Kendallville, he married Mildred "Mickey" Handshoe.  Noel retired from Dalton Foundry in 2008 after 41 years of service.  He was the former president of the G.M.P. Union Local #262.  He was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting deer and rabbit, and collecting guns and knives.  He also had a passion for family genealogy.  He leaves behind his wife, Mickey Hicks of Kendallville, sons, James Hicks of Kendallville, and Kenneth (Jennifer) Hicks of Kendallville, daughters, Robin (Bill) Needham of New Haven, and Stacey (Nathan) Bottjer of Avilla.  Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren; brothers, Gary Hicks of Boise, ID, and Sam (Julie) Hicks of LaGrange, and a sister, Diana Stewart of Wolcottville.  Funeral service is 11:00am Thursday August 30, 2018 at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla, with visitation one hour prior to service.  Rev Willie Collins will officiate.  Visitation will also be from 2-4 & 6-8pm Wednesday August 29, 2018 at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Orange Township Cemetery, Rome City.  Donations in Noel's name may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.  To sign the online guest book or leave condolences, visit www.harperfuneralhomes.com
