AVILLA — Kathleen W. Boyer, 93, of Avilla, died Tuesday September 5, 2017, at the Presence Sacred Heart Home. She was born in Kendallville to George and Alva Seng. She was raised in Kendallville by her step-parents, James and Edith Woods, after losing both of her birth parents. A graduate of Kendallville High School, she married Gerald “Jack” Boyer on April 1, 1945. Kathleen loved to knit, crochet, work with flowers, and design and make Barbie Doll clothing. She was a member of the Salem Center VFD Women’s Auxiliary, and the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla.

Kathleen worked in the lab at Kraft Foods in Kendallville and later retired from Group Dekko. She and her husband lived in the area until 1985 when they moved to Irons, Michigan. In 1990, they returned to Noble County, living in Avilla.

Surviving are sons Gary Boyer of Stroh and Philip (Diana) Boyer of Wolcotville; daughters Cherry (David) Peterson of Fort Wayne, Jacque Sobasky of LaOtto and Susan Boyer of Waverly, Tennessee. Also surviving are a sister, Thelma Woodward of Moravia, New York; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Boyer; parents and step-parents; and brother Dale Seng.

Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, Saturday Sept. 9, 2017. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Avilla, with visitation one hour prior to service. Pastor Patrick Kuhlman will officiate. Burial will be in Prince of Peace Cemetery, north of Helmer. Visitation will also be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., Avilla.

Memorials are to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Presence Sacred Heart Home, Laverna Terrace, or donor’s choice.
