Joyce Ellen (Withrow) Lawson

Joyce Ellen (Withrow) Lawson, of Albion, died peacefully on November 7, 2018, at the age of 82.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Erika Morrison; her grandchildren, Charlotte and Leo Morrison; and her siblings, Ruth Ford and Lawrence Withrow. She is preceded in death by her husband, James F. Lawson; and brother, Robert Withrow.

Joyce was born on July 28, 1936, in Terre Haute, to Mathew Withrow and Nellie (Sawyer) Withrow. She married James Lawson in 1966. After moving to Albion, Indiana, Joyce joined her husband in producing the many musical productions presented in their tenure at Central Noble High School, nurturing multiple generations of area musicians/artists.

Joyce was an accomplished musician and teacher who taught private voice, in addition to her co-production duties with her husband. She was a dedicated teacher who loved her students and who was passionate about developing their musical talents. She was an active and dedicated member of the Albion Presbyterian Church.

A gravesite funeral is scheduled Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. A memorial recital will take place on Joyce’s 83rd birthday at Albion Presbyterian with a reception to follow. The time is to be announced. Commissioned Lay Pastor Beverly Harkey will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joyce’s life at the July recital.
