Janet (Pieper) Leatherman

Janet S. Leatherman, 74, of Avilla, died on Sunday August 6, 2017, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

She was born on February 9, 1943, in Fort Wayne to the late Arthur and Gwendolyn (Everson) Pieper. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla and loved to play bingo in her spare time.

On May 18, 1992, she married Robert Leatherman who survives in Avilla.

Also surviving is son, James Deetz of Fort Wayne; daughters Julie (Steven) Kahn of Roanoke, Jenny (Clem) Bowser of New Haven and Janice Muldoon of New Haven; and stepdaughters LaDena (Max) Weaver of Avilla and Lisa Chester of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and brothers Jerry Pieper of Fort Wayne and Joe (Judy) Pieper of Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Judi Krieder; brother Jeff Pieper; stepfather Kenneth Saalfrank; and stepson-in-law Mike Chester.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday August 10, 2017, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Patrick Kuhlman will officiate.

Visitation also will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Kendallville.
