Avilla – Guy Allen Hillegass, 76, of Avilla, passed away on Sunday April 1, 2018 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born on Dec 3, 1941 in Garrett to the late Frank and Della (Tindall) Hillegas. He was a US Marine Corp veteran, and retired as an inspector from General Electric after 43 years of service. A talented musician, he played guitar and performed vocals for Right Directions and Who’s Zat Band. He also enjoyed trapping, computers, and shooting his guns. On March 20, 1970, in Auburn, he married Judy Kinerk. She survives in Avilla. Also surviving are sons, Chad (Jessica) Hillegass of Huntertown, and Glen Hillegass of Avilla, daughter, Suzanne (Steven) Malcolm of Huntertown, brother, Charles (Arlene) Hillegass of Garrett, sister Mary Edsall of Auburn, grandchildren Jordan, Spencer, and Taylor Malcolm, and Ethan and Gabriel Hillegass. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Malcolm, brothers, Frank and Bob, and sisters, Roberta, Alma, Helen, and Dorothy. Funeral service will be 11:00am Thursday April 5, 2018 at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla, with visitation from 10:30am until time of service. Visitation also from 2-4 & 6-8pm Wednesday April 4, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Avilla, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Avilla American Legion Post #240, Humane Society of Noble County, or charity of the donor’s choice.
