Alton "Pete" Egolf

Avilla – Alton “Pete” Egolf, 83, of Avilla, passed away on Tuesday Nov 7, 2017 surrounded by his family under hospice care at Parkview in Fort Wayne.  He was born on July 30, 1934 near Churubusco to the late Samuel and Olive (Smith) Egolf.  He was a graduate of Churubusco High School Class of 1952.  On Sept 6, 1952, in Avilla, he married Betty Keller.  She survives in Avilla.  Pete, as he was known to many, owned and operated Egolf Excavating for over 50 years.  He was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla.  In addition to his wife, Betty Egolf, he is survived by daughters, Valerie (Charles) Crager of Avilla, Bridget (Ben) Clark of Ankeny, IA, and Heidi (Richard) Ludwig of Avilla, grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Lutter of LaOtto, Emily (Jeff) Nelson of Waterloo, Matthew (Melissa) Clark of South Bend, and Sarah (PJ) Schmidt of Ankeny, IA, Alexis Ludwig of Avilla, and Ryan Ludwig of Avilla.  Also surviving is a brother, Harold Egolf of Ashley, sister, Garnet Rocke of Arizona, 6 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Alan, Nile, and infant brother Roger; and sister Marvel Obermyer, and infant sister Geneva.  Funeral service is 11:00am Friday November 10, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 113 West Albion St., Avilla, with visitation one hour prior to service.  Pastor Patrick Kuhlman will officiate.  Visitation also from 4-8pm Thursday November 9, 2017 at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla.  Burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Avilla.  Pallbearers will be Jeff Nelson, Jason Lutter, Matt Clark, Matthew Clark, PJ Schmidt, and Ryan Ludwig.  Memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
