Karen,
I am so sorry. I just learned of Al's passing. My heart goes out to you. I am certainly appreciative of the kindness you showed Mom (Mary) during your times in the dining room. Hugs!

Karen... I am so sad to hear of Al's passing. I never had him as a teacher, but he coached little league baseball when I played back in the mid 60s, and helped with basketball in junior high. I thought he was so rough on us then... he made us do sit ups and push ups and jumping Jack's... but in the end he was pretty lenient about it. He always had a smile and he treated us great.... always a lot of fun. I remember his red 64 Impala convertible... always loved that car. We wish you love and comfort and will be thinking about you often.

Dear Karen,
I was sorry to see Al's obituary on this site. I always enjoyed seeing you two when I was out in Albion. The last time I saw you was at Kountry Kitchen and you had your usual smile. I hope you are doing okay and can feel the wonderful support of the Albion community. I also went to Asbury when you did.. Alanna

Dear Karen and Family,
I was so sorry to hear about Al. I was planning on coming to see you but our daughter's ride back to college fell through so I ended up going to Purdue instead. Dr. Mike said to tell you how sorry he was as well and he was in Michigan or he would have been there as well. You are in our thoughts during this difficult time. We will miss him a lot. Take care and know that we Love you and will be thinking of you.

Please accept our deepest condolences during this most difficult time. While nothing will completely take away your grief, we have found the scripture at Revelation 21:4 to be especially comforting where it promises that soon God will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more. May God comfort all of you and give you peace in the days ahead. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4

There are not enough words to say how much Al and Karen have meant in my life. Al gave me opportunities in high school that I still appreciate to this day, as well as our annual Hannah Holstein contests. I know my life changed tracks and I didn't follow into business like we planned, but I hope he was proud of me for following in his path as a teacher and proud of the job I have done. I was lucky enough to run into him and Karen last summer, which was one of the first times I had seen him in the last 20 years, but he was still the same old Al, my teacher, my mentor, and my friend. My thoughts and condolences go to Karen and the rest of your family on the loss of Al. He truly was a great man, even though he was a Notre Dame fan.

So sad to see the passing of this wonderful, joyful man. He sure made typing class exciting. I remember him coming up behind us, carrying a long ruler. If by chance you were looking at your fingers . . . WHACK!! He would hit the desk beside you! Even though I wasn't one of the fortunate ones to receive this, the sound of that ruler and desk coming together, scared the bejeebers out of me! He was also the classroom instructor for my driver's training class. Some of the things he said, I have told my sons when they were learning to drive. Al will be missed. May memories sustain you, friends surround you and love give you strength.
