ROME CITY — Frank C. Knach, 85, of Rome City, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Chandler Place in Kendallville.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1931, in Avilla to the late Franklin and Laura (Teders) Knach. A lifetime area resident, he was a graduate of the Avilla High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He married Betty Jean Harlan on May 21, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avilla. She preceded him in death on Jan 28, 2016.
Frank retired as general manager of Indiana Michigan Power. An avid car enthusiast, he was a member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church, Avilla American Legion Post #240, and served as a member of Albion Town Council. Mr. Knach is survived by a son, Randy (Lois Pelz) Knach; daughters, Brenda (Herman) Conley of Rome City and Linda (Scott) Gray of Albion; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister LaVera (Don) McCoy of Avilla; and brothers-in-law Thomas (Bonnie) Harlan of Ocala, Florida, and Arnold (Sara) Harlan of Lafayette.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, 228 N. Main St., Avilla, with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Father Daniel Chukwuleta will officiate. Visitation also will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., Avilla, with rosary at 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Avilla.
Memorials in Mr. Knach’s name may be directed to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Riley Hospital for Children.
